GILLES MARIE-PAUL LAHEURTE

J'aime le jeu, l'amour, les livres, la musique,
La ville et la campagne, enfin tout; il n'est rien
Qui ne me soit souverain bien,
Jusqu'au sombre plaisir d'un coeur mélancolique.

I love games, love, books, music,
The city and the countryside, in fact everything; there is nothing
That does not do me highest good,
Even the dark pleasure of a melancholic heart.

(Jean de La Fontaine * 1621-1695)

BIOGRAPHICAL BACKGROUND

Gilles Marie Paul Laheurte was born in Lyon (France) in 1946.
He was raised in Germany and Austria (1947-1964).
After a two-year bout at the Beaux-arts School of architecture in Strasbourg, he came to New York in 1966 and graduated from Columbia University in 1972.

During the 70s, his profession focused mostly on New York City's private construction sector. In the late 70s, he reoriented his career to development in Africa and Haiti, and worked for 25 years with international organizations until December 2004.
Since, he is the Managing Partner of his own firm HARMONIS International, providing Services for sustainability of Development and alleviation of poverty, in the fields of Habitat, Architecture, Monitoring, and Infrastructures (thus HARMONIS).

Gilles is an architect/planner, an artist, a writer, a poet, a stage actor, a photographer and an amateur jazz musician. He is a humanist of many talents. Some of his friends consider him as a contemporary "Renaissance" man.

Fully bilingual, he helps French writers in getting their work published in English. He is the translator/co-author of the English version of the French book L'initiateur published in the USA in 2003 as The Servant of the Light.

He is the USA Representative of the Editions Fortuna, Brussels, www.editionsfortuna.be, and of the French Author Serge Marjollet.

He is also the USA Representative of the French Jazz label Senators Records dedicated to the music of Steve Lacy, an American composer/saxophonist who resided in France for some 33 years.

Always eager to discover the unusual and learn something new, his many assignments in Africa and Haiti, including his long-term residencies in Tanzania, Kenya, Haiti and Rwanda (1979-1986) enabled him to explore in depth fascinating local cultures and languages, which helped further expand his already broad and open-minded outlook on life.

Being of an adventurous nature, he traveled the world extensively:
* Africa: over 30 countries : Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Chad, Comoros Islands, Congo (Kinshasa), Ethiopia, Eritrea, Guinea (Conakry), Guinea (Bissau), Ghana, Kenya, La Réunion, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Mozambique, Niger, Rwanda, Sao Tome & Principe, Senegal, Seychelles, Somalia, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Yemen
* The Caribbean: Dominican Republic, Guadeloupe, Haiti, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands
* North America: Canada, USA
* South America: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay
* Europe: Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxemburg, The Netherlands, Switzerland, United Kingdom
* Japan.

Having lived in many places in the world, he considers New York his favorite city and place for his life style and appreciation for the arts.

His Personal Statement: “I am the eternal present moment.”
